ROBBEN BACKS HOLLAND

Bayern Munich midfielder Arjen Robben has said that he feels that Germany are not a team in the same breath as Netherlands and Spain when it comes to attacking football. Germany have had a lot of success without lifting any major trophy in recent major tournaments.

They come into the Euro 2012 with the tag as being one of the favourites to lift the competition. However, Arjen Robben has said ahead of the crucial encounter with Germany that he does not see Germany to be a great attacking threat in the same likes of Netherlands and Spain, according to the Chelsea news website.

Arjen Robben will be hoping to banish memories of a terrible season with his club team Bayern Munich, with whom he has finished as the runners up in three major competitions. Netherlands also finished as the runners up in the previous 2010 FIFA World Cup. However, they have a tough task ahead of them in order to erase the memories of the painful defeat at the hands of Spain in the World Cup final. They are in the group containing Germany, Portugal and the Denmark. The shock 1-0 loss at the hands of Denmark in the first group game has put a lot of pressure on Netherlands to deliver in the match against Germany.

“Some people say that Germany play fresh and attacking football, but I have to disagree. They’re mainly a counter-attacking team, and are not as attacking as Spain or Oranje. Netherlands have more individual quality than Germany, though it would be nice if we had a player of Steven Gerrard‘s qualities in midfield. They have some great players, but are most of all a solid team. It will be make or break. We all have plenty of quality at Oranje, and we have to show it against Germany. Of course we can beat them. All the Dutch players must have the conviction that we can beat them,” said Robben.
