HUDSON-ODOI OVERTAKES ROBBEN RECORD

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has set a new record for the youngest player to get to ten assists in the Premier League beating the previous record held by Dutchman Arjen Robben. England international Hudson-Odoi became the youngest Chelsea player to reach ten assists when he won a penalty during the away win over Aston Villa. He won the spot kick after a foul on him from Villa right-back Matty Cash and Italian midfielder Jorginho made no mistake in drawing the Blues level towards the end of the first half from the resulting penalty after Villa had taken the lead courtesy a Reece James own goal off the cross from Villa left-back Matt Targett.

Newly capped Poland international Cash made a big mistake in bringing down 21-year-old Hudson-Odoi while trying to win the ball during the Boxing Day clash. It was a pivotal moment in the game as it gave the Blues a route back into the game.

Chelsea brought on record signing RomeluLukaku in the second half and his goal edge them 2-1 ahead before he won a late penalty off Villa centre back EzriKonsa to pave the way for Jorginho to seal a 3-1 win for Chelsea at the expense of Aston Villa who were missing manager Steven Gerrard in the dugout after he tested positive to Covid-19.

Arjen Robben held the record for the youngest Blues player to produce ten assists in the Premier League for several years before it was broken by Englishman Hudson-Odoi.

Robben joined Chelsea at the age of 20 as a winger and he had nine assists in his first season in the Premier League. The Dutchman was signed at the start of the 2004/05 season. Arjen Robben broke the record for the youngest Chelsea player to ten assists at the start of the 2005/06 season.
