The trend of former and veteran players commending and lauding the stars of the current generation has continued to soar and while the praise has been spreading across to a lot of players, they have been well-deserved. Just recently, former Chelsea midfield star Cesc Fabregas heaped huge praise on the Blues’ current star Mason Mount, and former Barcelona midfield maestro Andres Iniesta continued the trend by lauding Barcelona’s Pedri for his recent performances in a Barca shirt that earned him his first call-up to the Spanish national team.

And now, former Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has joined the train after recently praising Memphis Depay. Depay, a former Lyon star has been in a very bright form for the Netherlands in recent times and is seen as one of the Holland national team’s best players – if not the best – with his recent performances on the pitch in Dutch colors.

While enjoying a remarkable season with French club Lyon last season, he has continued to carry his country on his back consistently and has failed to register a goal or assist just once in his last nine appearances for the Netherlands. He has continued his blistering form for his country at the Euros and is already making a claim to finish the tournament as the leading goalscorer.

In their second and most recent game in the group stage, Depay was once again in fine form as he started in the country’s 2-0 victory. He scored the opener after cooly finding the back of the net from the penalty spot at the 11th minute.

And Robben has insisted that the player is the country’s star and could make things happen in the tournament. Depay is expected to complete his Barcelona move after the Euros following his agreement to join the Spanish La Liga giants.
