Arjen Robben Biography

Arjen Robben is a Dutch international footballer, who has represented some of the biggest clubs in the world including the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Chelsea. He is a midfielder who primarily plays on either wings, although he is also known to play just behind the striker in the hole. Aside from the enormous club success that Arjen Robben has had over the years, he has also been a prominent player for the Dutch national team. Arjen Robben started his year career with Dutch club Groningen in 2000 before making the move to PSV in 2002.

The move to PSV in 2002 brought him the attention of various big clubs across Europe, but it was Chelsea who showed the most interest in the extremely skilled winger. Chelsea fought off the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid to sign the youngster from the Dutch League for a reported £12 million. Perhaps, his most impressive season in the Dutch League up until now came in the 2002-03 season when he scored remarkable 12 goals from 33 appearances, which is made even extraordinary given that he plays on the wings.

His first season with the Chelsea was disrupted by injuries, but still he managed to make 29 appearances in all competitions and also scored nine goals in them. The following season, Arjen Robben became one of the most impressive and important players for Chelsea. He provided the width in the team that was certainly challenging for titles on all fronts. He spent two more seasons with the Chelsea and the English club could not resist the offer of £24 million from Real Madrid in the summer of 2007.

After his arrival at the Santiago Bernebeu, Arjen Robben soon became an important part of the team. Especially considering that, the Real Madrid side was not on par with the previous generations of the Galacticos period. In his first season at Real Madrid, Robben made 28 appearances and this increased to 35 appearances in the second season, which was by far his best. However, change in the presidency of the club resulted in Robben moving to Bayern Munich for around €25 million.

As with Real Madrid, Robben was once again impressive at Bayern Munich, although he did suffer injuries during key moments of the season.

Robben made his international debut for the Dutch national team in 2003. His first major tournament with the Dutch was the Euro 2004. He was one of the most impressive players at the 2010 World Cup in which the Dutch finished as the runners up. In total, Robben has made 53 appearances for the national team scoring on 15 occasions.

During his time with some of the biggest clubs in the world, Robben has won the likes of the Premier League, la Liga, Bundesliga, FA Cup, Eredivisie and so on. Individually, he has been included in the PFA Team of the Year in 2005, while he was also voted as the Footballer of the Year 2010 in Germany.
