ROBBEN UNDERSTANDS

The Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben has said that he can understand the reasons for top players leaving Arsenal and the club not being able to win any major trophy in the last eight seasons. It has been eight years since Arsenal last lifted a major trophy in the form of the FA Cup. Their last league title came in 2004 in the side that contained the likes of Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira. Arjen Robben is one of the few remaining players to have played against this Arsenal team when he was a Chelsea player. His current Bayern Munich team will be coming up against the Premier league team in the last 16 stage of the Champions League.

Ahead of this tie, Arsenal are fighting to finish in the top four this season. One of the main reasons for their inability to comfortably finish in the top four has been the lack of goals following the sale of striker like Robin van Persie. Robben has said that he can understand the reasons for van Persie leaving Arsenal despite being the captain of the team. He has said that every player wants to win major trophies, and van Persie did not see it happening at Arsenal for the time being.

“Yes, Robin was the captain. But that’s also how it goes in football. Players are leaving. In the end, of course, for the real Arsenal supporters it was a shame, it was very disappointing that he left the club. But on the other hand, if they think clearly, everybody understands his choice that he also wants to win titles and at Arsenal at the moment it’s going to be very difficult. I think you can see it. It’s not my opinion, it’s also a fact,” said Robben ahead of the match.
