BAYERN MUNICH HOLD POSITIVE TALKS WITH LUCAS HERNANDEZ

Bayern Munich has done a great job in securing the future of key players over the last 12 months. They couldn’t agree new deals for Robert Lewandowski and Niklas Sule, but the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, and Leon Goretzka are set to spend the best years of their career in Munich. Bayern will now turn their attention towards addressing the future of key defenders in the next eight months.

Lucas Hernandez is next in line for contract talks since he has less than two years left on the current deal. According to Sky Sports, talks between Hernandez and Bayern are moving in the right direction. There is confidence from both sides that an agreement can be reached over a new deal.

Die Roten paid a significant fee to Atletico Madrid for Hernandez in 2019 to beat competition from several top clubs in Europe. After going through injury problems in his debut season, the French international has gone from strength to strength at Bayern over the last three seasons.

Hernandez took up the mantle of becoming the leader in central defense at Bayern this season after the departure of Niklas Sule in the summer. The Frenchman enjoyed a very good start to the season before suffering an adductor injury against Barcelona in September.

The French center-back is firmly settled in Bavaria, so it makes sense for him to sign a new deal. He is part of the long-term project at Die Roten and an important player for Julian Nagelsmann in the current setup. Die Roten is also likely to offer him a sound financial package, so it should be a straightforward decision for the French international.

From Bayern’s point of view, securing the future of Lucas Hernandez is crucial. The French defender is set to get better with time as he enters the peak years of his career. Considering the inflated market for quality center-backs, extending Hernandez’s contract is a no-brainer for Bayern.
