BREKALO SET TO SNUB SOUTHAMPTON

VFL Wolfsburg loanee Josip Brekalois reportedly set to snub the Premier League in favour of the Spanish La Liga. This is according to the report from German news outlet Kicker which disclosed that Arjen Robben 2.0 has his eyes firmly on a move to the Spanish top flight despite the interest from Premier League outfit Southampton.

Southampton manager Ralph Hassenhuttlmight need to add attacking talents such as the aforementioned Brekalo to his squad ahead of the new season with current attacking options such as Theo Walcott, Moussa Djenepo and Nathan Redmond unlikely to stay with the Saints beyond this summer. The transfer plan is for Southampton to sign a new centre back and a new goalkeeper. However, an attacker could be added to the list if the likes of Walcott, Redmond and Djenepo leave the club. The Saints are in the market for a new goalkeeper with Fraser Forster set to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of this month. Englishman Forsteris closing in on a move to North London side Tottenham Hotspur.

Croatian international Brekalo signed for Italian Serie A club Torino on loan from German Bundesliga outfit VFL Wolfsburg last summer with the option to make it a permanent transfer for just £9m.

Brekalo impressed for Torino as he scored seven goals in 31 league games. The right-footed attacker has been likened to Dutchman Arjen Robben, but he uses the right foot more and not the left foot. While Arjen Robben was usually on the right side of attack before he cuts inside to get his shot away with his left foot before he called time on his professional football career, Croatian star Brekalousually plays on the left side of attack where he cuts inside to take a shot with his right foot.
