ROBBEN TIPS DEPAY TO SHINE AT BARCELONA THIS SEASON

Barcelona finally signed Memphis Depay as a free agent after several weeks of being locked in negotiations with the star forward. The Spanish La Liga giants, managed by Ronald Koeman, placed signing the former Manchester United winger as one of their priorities this summer and their fans have also expressed their excitement following the confirmation of his signing and unveiling. Depay finished last season as a Lyon player but he refused to sign a new contract extension as he insisted that he wanted to move to the next step in his career and signing for a club of Barcelona’s status was the perfect move he could not reject.

Depay was not Barcelona’s only signing this summer as the Catalan giants also completed a deal for Sergio Agüero after the striker ran out of his contract at Manchester City and was not offered a new contract. However, while Agüero is more of a short-term signing, Depay, a younger player, is seen as one that can represent the Blaugrana for a couple of years to come.

Following his move to Barcelona this summer, Depay has started showing what he’s capable of and is making a statement already in pre-season after scoring two goals in his last two outings for the club. In their previous match, Depay came off the bench in the second half to score a goal from the spot while he also found the back of the net in their most recent fixture as he continues to look sharp ahead of the new La Liga season starting later in August.

Depay’s former teammate at international level, Arjen Robben has now tipped the new Barcelona signing to shine at the Camp Nou this season as he insisted that having played alongside him for the Netherlands national team, he is quite a bright player and he deserved the big move this summer.
